Fans in attendance for Williamstown Middle School's boys' basketball season opener got their money's worth and then some with two exciting games between the Demons and visiting Owen Co.

Williamstown scored 17 unanswered points to overcome a six-point deficit in a 33-22 win in the 7th-grade contest. The 8th-grade Demons were also impressive, dominating Owen Co. for most of the game before faltering down the stretch of a two-point defeat, 44-42.

7TH GRADE
WMS 33, Owen 22

Trailing 10-4 early in the second quarter, Williamstown started firing on all cylinders both offensively and defensively and scored the game's next 17 points to go on top 21-10, a lead it would not give up despite a valiant effort by Owen Co. down the stretch.

Isiah Magee and Koby Easterwood led a balanced scoring attack for Williamstown with six points each. Tucker Gray was next for the winners with five points.

Micah McCain and Preston Widener contributed four points each for the Demons, followed by Brendon Morris, Ben Kinsey, and Nash Smith with two each, and Keene Simpson and Elijah Walters one apiece.

Williamstown's Caden Tien (10), Nash Smith (20) and Tucker Gray (25) put up a strong defensive front for the Demon's full-court press in 7th-grade action. The Demons won 33-22.

Williamstown scored the game's first points and led for most of the first period before Owen Co. came back to tie it at 4-4 at the end of one quarter.

 

Owen Co. remained hot in the second period and built a six-point advantage, 10-4, with back-to-back 3-pointers. But Williamstown turned it on both offensively and defensively, scoring the game's next 17 points to go up 21-10.

 

Williamstown remained strong and was in complete control, 26-14, with one period to play. The Demons matched Owen Co. basket for basket in the final period to hold on for the win.

 

8TH GRADE
Owen Co. 44, WMS 42

 

Williamstown was the dominate team early, outscoring the visitors 19-5 in the second quarter to take a commanding 27-14 lead into the locker room at the half.

 

But Owen Co. turned the tables on the Demons and outscored Williamstown 20-7 in the third period to get back within striking distance.

 

Williamstown continued to lead for much of the final period and was still on top by three with 1:30 remaining when the wheels feel off and Owen Co. took advantage of multiple miscues by the Demons to score the games final four points for the come-from-behind win.

 

Williamstown was led in scoring by Jonas Alger with 15 points, including three 3-pointers. Bryson Stanley was next with seven, including a key 3-pointer.

 

Patrick Smith scored six points for the Demons, followed by Kobe Easterwood with four, Chase Turner and Cole Kightlinger three each, and Matthew Rothwell two.
