After losing a heart-breaker to Owen Co. on opening night, the Williamstown 8th-grade Demons left nothing to chance in the rematch, running away from the Rebels in a 58-40 victory.

 

And just as they did two weeks ago, the 7th-grade Demons had little to no problem with Owen Co. in a 55-23 thrashing of the host team.

 

8TH GRADE

After Owen Co. spoiled Williamstown's season-opener with a come-from-behind victory two weeks ago, the Demons got revenge in the rematch, grabbing the lead early in the first

quarter and leading throughout the rest of the game en route to the 18-point victory.

 

Williamstown outscored Owen Co. 8-6 in the first quarter before taking a double-digit lead in the second period by outscoring the host team 19-10 to take a 27-16 advantage into the locker room at the half.

 

The Demons never let up and outscored Owen Co. 16-12 in the third quarter and 15-12 over the final six minutes to secure the win.

 

Williamstown was powered by a very balanced offensive attack that had nine players score points in the win. But none was bigger than Jonas Alger, who fired in a season-high 22 points, just one fewer than the entire Owen Co. team.

 

Bryson Stanley was next for the winners with seven points, followed by Kobe Easterwood and Corey Fryman with six each, Chase Turner four, Cole Kightlinger and Cole Kemper three each, and Matthew Rothwell and Patrick Smith two apiece.

 

7TH GRADE

WMS 55, Owen Co. 23

 

Williamstown showed obvious improvement from the first game with Owen, which the Demons won by 11. This time around Williamstown scored double digits in three of the four quarters, including a 23-point explosion in the third quarter, to win by 32 points.

 

The Demons won the scoring battle in the first quarter 9-6 and continued to lead 20-16 at the half. But Williamstown made the proper adjustments at the intermission and came out of the locker room hitting on all cylinders, outscoring the opponents 23-3 in the third to take total control of the game.

 

It didn't get any easier for Owen Co. in the final period with Williamstown tripling up the Rebels, 12-4.

 

Nine players contributed points for Williamstown in the win. Preston Widener led all scorers with 15 points, followed by teammate Nash Smith with 10 points.

 

Tucker Gray was next for the victors with eight points, followed by fellow Demons Micah McCain with seven points, Keene Simpson with four, Kobe Easterwood, Elijah Walters and Isiah Magee with three each, and Caden Tien with two.
