Second-half run allows Patriots to pull away from Demons in Mingua Hoopfest

In a game that was actually much better and closer than the final score indicates, Williamstown fell 82-46 versus Richmond Model on Friday at Paris High School as part of the Mingua Beef Jerky Hoopfest.

 

Williamstown trailed by only four late in the second quarter and was still in the game throughout the first few minutes of the third period before Model pulled away over the final 12 minutes of the game.

 

Sophomore Landen Hare continued his impressive play of late with team-highs of  14 points and five rebounds. He also hit a pair of big 3-pointers. Jon Jump was next with 13 points, including two from long range.

 

Brennan Stanley scored eight points for Williamstown, also hitting two 3-point shots, followed by Brady Montgomery with three, and Cameron Varner, Dustin Smith, Harold Fernandez and Walker Angell with two apiece.

 

Following Hare's team-leading five rebounds was Fernandez, Chris Parsons, and Carter Sarcione with three each, and Angell, Jump, Smith and Varner with two apiece.

In a score previously unreported, Williamstown was no match for Grant Co. in a 112-55 loss. The score says more about Grant Co.'s prowess than it does about Williamstown's weaknesses as

Grant Co. is one of the region's best with 10 seniors.

 

Freshman Brennan Stanley led Williamstown in scoring with 15, followed by Jon Jump and Carter Sarcione with eight each, and Dustin Smith with seven.

 

Cameron Varner was next for the Demons with five points, while teammates Brady Montgomery and Chris Parson added four apiece.  Bryce Montgomery and Harold Fernandez rounded out the Williamstown scoring with two each.

Short-handed with multiple players either missing from the lineup or suffering from illnesses, Williamstown gave its best effort before falling 76-42 versus Berea at Richmond Model in the Coaches Versus Cancer Classic.

 

Jon Jump led the Demons' offensive attack with 13 points, followed by backcourt mate Jose Espicio with 11, including a trio of 3-pointers.

 

Landen Hare added six and Walker Angell five for Williamstown, followed by Dustin Smith with three, and Brennan Stanley and Brady Montgomery with two apiece.

 

Hare and Bryce Montgomery were strong under the boards for Williamstown with five rebounds each. Harold Fernandez, Chris Parsons and Varner pulled down three boards apiece.

 

For his efforts, Espicio was named the Player of the Game for Williamstown.

Jose Espicio came off the bench to score 11 points, hitting a trio of 3-pointers in the process, to win the Player of the Game award for Williamstown.
