The key to the win was hitting with the Demons pounding out 19 hits in the game after having just 23 hits in their first 10 games combined. The bottom of the Williamstown lineup, the 7-8-9 hitters, more than did their share with eight hits and 10 RBI.

 

"When we hit the ball we can score runs and it was evident in this game," said Williamstown Coach A.J. Mason. "We needed a game like this to break out.

 

"Whenever the bottom of the lineup is hitting the ball like they did, it means the top of the lineup guys are getting more at bats, too," added Mason. "But you have to give a lot of credit to the guys in front of the 7-8-9 hitters for getting on base and giving them the chance to hit-and-run."

 

While the bats had started to come alive in recent games, it was against Eminence that the Demons started to get the big hit in key situations, prompting Mason to praise his team for its timely hitting.

 

"We did a very good job of hitting with runners in scoring position. Better than we have all year," he said. "We didn't try to do too much. We just made contact and let the ball find the holes."

 

Barnes, a senior, led the way for the Demons, going 3-for-3 with 5 RBI, including the grand slam, which he hit over the left field fence in the second inning. Mason said with it being a tournament game, he is not surprised Barnes came up big for the Demons. It's something he has become accustom to over the years.

 

"Jordyn has always been a tournament-time hitter, and its evident in this game," said Mason. "Jordyn came up real big for us."

 

Austin Jones also had a big game for the winners with three hits in three at bats to go with three RBI. Jimmy Fryman was next going 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.

 

Freshman Jacob Scroggins went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Senior Drew Harris collected three hits in four plate appearances, scoring two runs and knocking in another for the Demons, while teammate Corey Fryman went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI.

 

Tony Campbell, a junior, contributed one hit and scored one run, while Derek Cummins added an RBI.

Cummins started on the mound for the Demons and struck out seven in five innings of work before Thompson came on in relief and struck out three in one inning on the hill.

 

By winning against Eminence, Williamstown earned a spot in the All A Classic Region 8 Final Four, where it met Carroll Co. The Demons were not as fortunate, scoring just one run in an 11-1 loss. Drew Harris accounted for the Demons' only hit and run after coming up with a first inning triple and then scoring.

For their efforts, Jordyn Barnes and Drew Harris were selected to the 8th Region All A Classic All Tournament Team.
