The third quarter was very cruel to the Williamstown Middle School Demons basketball teams in a pair of losses in All A Tournament action this week.

 

Williamstown's 7th-grade Demons were held scoreless in the third quarter of a 36-25 loss to Walton-Verona, while the 8th-grade Demons managed only two points in the third period of a 44-30 defeat versus Henry Co.

 

7TH GRADE

Walton-Verona 36, WMS 25

 

Williamstown led deep into the second period before the third-quarter collapse. The Demons actually won the scoring battle over the other three quarters, 25-24.

 

Williamstown was up 11-10 after one period of play and was still in the game despite trailing 19-14 at the half. The Demons outscored Walton 11-5 in the final period, but it was too little, too late following the Bearcats 12-0 third-period win.

 

Isiah Magee was the leading scorer for Williamstown with nine points. Tucker Gray and Kobe Easterwood contributed five points each.

 

Preston Widener was next in scoring for the Demons with four points, with Micah McCain rounding out the scoring with two.

8TH GRADE

Henry Co. 44, WMS 30

 

Williamstown was in control at 11-8 after one period and was still leading the charge, 21-20, at the half before a cold streak in the third period allowed Henry Co. to gain the momentum. Henry Co. won the third quarter scoring battle 13-2 and sealed the deal with a 11-7 advantage over the final six minutes.

 

Williamstown was led in scoring by guard Jonas Alger's 11 points. Cole Kightlinger was next for the Demons with eight.

 

Patrick Smith added four points for Williamstown, followed by Kobe Easterwood with three, and Matthew Rothwell and Cole Kemper two each.
