Looking for another scoring option to compliment one of the best guard combos in the 8th Region, Williamstown Coach Roger Harden may have found it on Tuesday in the Demons' win over visiting Villa Madonna.

Junior center Carter Sarcione exploded for 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way for Williamstown in the 77-53 win. Sarcione scored his team's first seven points, nine of his team's first 11, and had four rebounds in the first three minutes of play.

Villa Madonna had no answer to Sarcione's prowess and only foul trouble was able slow him down and stop him from having an even bigger night.

"Carter has the potential to come in and do that night in and night out," said Harden. "I'm very proud of him. Without him early I don't know where we would have been. And he sustained it throughout the game.

"Carter scored and rebounded for us, but he also had several nice passes," continued Harden. "Hopefully this is a breakout game for him.and a big confidence surge for him and we will get this kind of performance for the rest of his career here."

Williamstown didn't get off to the best start and found itself trailing for much of the first period before taking charge in the second quarter and taking a lead that it would not relinquish.

Williamstown had four players score 14 or more points, a rare occurrence for the Demons, and a total of eight players put points on the board in the victory.

Williamstown, as a team, hit better than 56 percent of its shots, including 46 percent from 3-point range.

"We were very balanced as a team. This is the most balanced we've been," commented Harden. "Villa Madonna is a very good team. We came out in the second half and played good team ball and was very balanced in our scoring. The guys really moved the ball well. It was a good night all the way around. I'm very happy."

While Sarcione was the star of the game, others shined as well including sophomore Jon Jump with a game-high 19 points, which included four 3-pointers.

Senior Cameron Varner also flashed signs of his dominating ability with 15 points in one of his best games of the season. He hit a trio of 3-pointers.

Freshman Brennan Stanley added 14 points, which included a pair of 3-pointers.

Sophomore Chris Parsons contributed four points for the winners, followed by Jose Espicio and Dustin Smith with three each, coming on shots from behind the arch. Senior Derek Cummins rounded out the scoring for the winners with two points.
