Senior center Ashely Marksbury recorded a double-double with a career-high 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Williamstown Lady Demons to their first win of the season, a 50-43 victory over host Owen Co.

While Marksbury lead the way, it took the effort of several Lady Demons to secure the win. Junior Rachel Montgomery, who is coming back from an injury, made her first appearance of the season and came up big with a key rebound and shot in the final two minutes, while sophomore point guard Michaela 'Moose' Kennedy hit a key 3-pointer to give the Lady Demons the lead down the stretch.

Williamstown, which shot just 24 percent from the field in the game, missing no fewer than 10 layups, heated up as the game went on and scored 23 points in the final eight minutes alone. The 23 points were more than the Lady Demons scored in any other two quarters combined.

Following Marksbury's game-high 20 points was Kennedy with 15, including her team's only 3-pointer of the game.

Junior Katie Cheek and eighth-grader Kiki Johnson were next with five points each for the winners, followed by Montgomery with four and eighth-grader Justice Chambers with one.

Leading 10-9 after one quarter, Williamstown played from behind for most of the rest of the game after being outscored 17-8 in the second quarter. The Lady Demons were still trailing 34-27 heading into the final period.

Williamstown hit 23 of 31 shots from the free throw line in the game, including 12-of-17 over the final eight minutes, many of them coming down the stretch as the Lady Demons stole the momentum from the host team and pulled away.

Senior Ashely Marksbury (22) continued her impressive play with 20 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Owen Co.
