It's going to be a very Merry Christmas for the Williamstown Lady Demons and Coach Kasey Mason after an impressive 55-48 win over one of the 8th Region's best on Friday.

Williamstown topped Trimble Co. 55-48 to give the Lady Demons back-to-back wins and a place among the region's leaders heading into the Christmas break. At 4-3 overall, which includes three wins in its last four games, Williamstown currently is tied for the second most victories in the region and remains one of only seven teams above .500.

Only Simon Kenton at 6-0 has more wins or a better record than Williamstown.

Williamstown, which beat Grant Co. earlier in the week, continued to flex its muscle in the win over Trimble Co., which came into

the season as a Top 6 team in Region 8 according to the Cats Pause Magazine. The loss was the first against a regional opponent this season for the Lady Raiders, who won 17 games a year ago.

Williamstown was led in scoring by junior guard Rachel Montgomery with 17 points. She was followed by sophomore guard Michaela 'Moose' Kennedy with 13, including four 3-pointers.

Sophomore Olivia Souder continued to come on strong for the Lady Demons with nine points. Junior guard Katie Cheek was next for the winners with seven, followed by eighth-grader Justice Chambers with six, sophomore Sydney Taylor with two, and senior Ashely Marksbury with one to round out the Lady Demons' scoring.

Williamstown was strong under the boards, led by Souder with six, Chambers with five, and Kennedy with four. Cheek, Kiki Johnson, Marksbury and Taylor all pulled down three boards each, while Montgomery added one.

Williamstown has plenty of time to savor the win and enjoy the holiday season with 10 days off before it resumes action on Dec. 29 in the NSA Holiday Classic at Carroll Co. The Lady Demons first opponent will be North Oldham at 2 p.m.

The Lady Demons also won the junior varsity match-up with Trimble Co. Williamstown Sports Report apologizes for not having that information at this time, but guarantees to have it, and any other unreported jv scores, in the very near future.
