Turnovers and missed free throws spelled doom for the Williamstown Middle School Demons in a pair of losses against visiting Gallatin Co.

Both the 7th and 8th Grade Demons struggled with turnovers and both hit less than 50 percent of their free throws in defeats. The 7th graders opened the night with a 42-26 loss, while the 8th-grade squad fell 43-34 in a hard-fought battle.

Williamstown will be back in action on November 6 at Owen Co. before returning home for four straight games beginning on November 11 versus Walton-Verona.

7TH GRADE

Gallatin 42, Williamstown 26

While turnovers were an issue, it was missed free throws that really cost the Demons. Williamstown missed a total of 12 shots from the charity stripe in the second half alone.

Williamstown's Kobe Easterwood (24) drives with the ball.

Just as it had in game one of the season, the Demons had a very balanced scoring attack, this time with eight players contributing points.

Kobe Easterwood and Preston Widener led the Demons (1-1) with eight points each. Patrick Day, Micah McCain, Nash Smith and Tucker Gray chipped in two each for Williamstown, while Brendan Morris and Elijah Walters scored one apiece.

Williamstown stayed close early and trailed by only four after one quarter, 10-6, and was still well within striking distance, 23-16, at the half. Easterwood scored all eight of his points in the second period, including six of seven from the free throw line.

Gallatin Co. had stretched its advantage to double digits by the end of the third period, 35-21, before outscoring the Demons 7-5 in the final quarter to secure the win.

8TH GRADE

Gallatin 43, Williamstown 34

Williamstown was very good out of the gate, scoring 14 points in the first quarter, and put up a good fight throughout. But a dreadful second quarter when the Demons were out-scored 12-6 ended up being the difference.

Jonas Alger and Cole Kemper were the leaders for the Demons (0-2) with 12 points each. Alger scored 10 of his points in the first half, including a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter. Kemper scored seven of his points in the second half, including six in the final period, including a 3-pointer.

Patrick Smith was next for Williamstown with four points, followed by Cole Kightlinger and Corey Fryman with three each.

Williamstown trailed by just one point, 15-14, after a high-scoring first quarter but fell behind by near double digits by the half, 27-20. Gallatin Co. extended its lead to 35-26 after three quarters of play and the two teams traded points in the final quarter.
